All Cafeterias on Campus will offer sandwich bags with the Slogan "I don't accept violence on my campus" and information about the subject.

"I don't accept violence on my campus!" is the message that can be read on all sandwich bags in the cafes and cafeterias on campus this November. The campaign draws attention to the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and Girls on November 25th and offers information on help for those affected.

No to violence against women

Together with the University of Applied Sciences Dortmund, the South Westphalia University of Applied Sciences and the Studierendenwerk Dortmund, the Equal Opportunities Office of the TU Dortmund is carrying out the campaign "Violence does not belong on our campus". With the lunch bags, which will be available in the catering facilities of the Studierendenwerk from the beginning of November, the Day of Action is to be popularized. This will create more awareness of the existing violence and discrimination against women and at the same time provide information about support services for those affected. In addition, TU Dortmund is flying the flag: As part of the international campaign "Orange Your City", an orange flag will now be hoisted annually on the campus on November 25th.

Silent Signal for Help

A pictogram with the so-called "signal for help" is printed on the bags. With this hand signal, threatened persons can make themselves known to others discreetly and ask for help. To do this, with the hand raised, the thumb is placed inside over the palm, and visibly enclosed with the fingers to form a fist. In order for affected people to get help, it is important to spread the knowledge about the hand signal.

First step: Hold your palm vertically and open to the front
Second step: Fold the thumb in towards the palm of the hand
Third step: clench the remaining fingers into a fist over the thumb

Help and Support

Women who are affected by violence themselves, or friends and relatives who observe or suspect violence in their environment, have various options to get anonymous, free and low-threshold advice. For example, the Violence against women support Hotline can be a first point of contact. They offer support in 18 languages such as Turkish, Kurdish, Russian, Albanian, French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Serbo-Croatian, Chinese, Bulgarian, Romanian, Ukrainian, Arabic, Persian and Vietnamese.

Those looking for support on Campus can reach out to the Counseling Center für Protection against Discrimination and against Sexualized Violence (SchuDS) of TU Dortmund University, where people affected by discrimination and/or sexualized violence can turn to.
