Diversity Day
German Diversity Day was first held in 2012 and has since taken place annually at the end of May as part of European Diversity Month.
German Diversity Day was launched by the Association for Diversity Charter. This day of action offers organizations and companies throughout Germany the opportunity to engage deeply with the topic of diversity. Through various activities, the importance of diversity is highlighted, and commitment to an open and discrimination-free workplace is made visible.
The goal of the day of action is to raise awareness of diversity in the workplace, break down prejudices, and promote inclusive work environments.
Diversity Day at TU Dortmund University
Throughout the month of May, numerous events will take place on campus that address various aspects of diversity and highlight the work of diversity advocates on campus.
This year’s keynote address for Diversity Day will be delivered by Dr. Rahab Njeri. Rahab Njeri is a historian and expert on anti-racism, intersectional theories, empowerment, and critical allyship. She will speak on May 19, 2026, starting at 6 p.m., on the topic “Solidarity Against Discrimination”:
“Discrimination at universities is no exception—it manifests itself in seminar rooms, in hallways, in application processes, and in institutional structures. But how can university members—students, faculty, and staff—actively contribute to identifying and changing discriminatory situations? A presentation offering theoretical foundations and concrete courses of action—for all university members.”
The event is open to all members of TU Dortmund University; registration is not required. The event will take place at the IBZ (Emil-Figge-Straße 61, 44227 Dortmund) and will also be streamed via Zoom.
An overview of all events as well as further information on Diversity Month at TU Dortmund University can be found on the website of the Staff Unit Equal Opportunites, Family, and Diversity
