Confidently Advocating for Gender Equality—A Workshop for Decentralized Gender Equality Officers at TU Dortmund University
- News

Gender equality issues can be relevant in a variety of contexts at universities. They play a role in everyday university life not only in the implementation of specific equal opportunity measures, but also in the selection of candidates during appointment procedures. A solid foundation of knowledge is necessary to handle gender equality issues with confidence.
In addition to the constitutional foundations of equality, the online workshop primarily addressed issues related to higher education law: Participants received a comprehensive overview of the most important legal foundations of equality work, as well as the rights, duties, and responsibilities of equality officers at universities in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The workshop centered on gender equality issues in appointment procedures. To this end, the legal foundations as well as the rights of gender equality officers to participate in this context were examined. Particular emphasis was placed on confidently addressing challenges or resistance to gender equality considerations within hiring committees.
The workshop offered participants the opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss individual cases, and ask questions.
The speaker was attorney Dr.in, Juliane Lorenz, a systemic consultant, lawyer, and expert in gender equality law at universities.
