On Thursday, July 9, TU Dortmund University held its traditional summer festival. Amid summery weather and a lively atmosphere, students, staff, and guests celebrated the end of the summer semester.

The Equal Opportunities Office was also represented again this year: At the joint booth with the Staff Unit Equal Opportunites, Family and Diversity, the team provided information about TU Dortmund University’s activities related to gender equality and diversity and invited attendees to get involved.

Who Will Be a Professor or a Know-It-All?

Visitors could put their knowledge and skills to the test—and in the process, become either a know-it-all or a professor.

In the game “Ride the Leaky Pipeline,” the goal was to use a great deal of coordination and work under time pressure to overcome or circumvent the institutional hurdles on the academic career path and promote the FLINTA* person to a professorship. In the Know-It-All Quiz, visitors could compete against each other or as a team and test their knowledge in categories such as intersectionality, equality, and diversity at TU Dortmund University, or gender justice. The categories “Not so Fun Facts” and “Mind the (Gender) Gap” were the most popular options here and sparked lively discussions.

No one who played went home empty-handed: As a small reward, participants received buttons, stickers, or statement bracelets featuring queer-feminist motifs and slogans. Participants were delighted with these eye-catching little items bearing a clear message, which they can use to take a stand even after the summer festival is over.
