- She for Democracy

This summer semester, we are launching the empowerment program She For Democracy together with the Equal Opportunities Office of the City of Dortmund. Because even in 2023, women are still underrepresented in politics and there is a lack of broad diversity among women. We therefore want to motivate women to get involved in politics and use their voice for their issues.
Program overview of She for Democracy
Program starts on April 22th
In addition to an introduction to the relationship between women and politics, the first day will be used to exchange ideas and get to know each other. What topics are you interested in? What kind of political engagement interests you? What does democracy actually have to do with your everyday life? And you will get to know active women from the Dortmund City Council who will accompany the program with their expertise, insider knowledge and personal experiences.
A summer full of politics
You will be fully involved in the program until August. You will learn to understand local political structures, how the council works and how you can shape local politics even without party affiliation. There are also workshops waiting for you where you can get straight into practice. You will learn how to use your voice, body language and rhetoric to make your views heard, whether in political contexts or in everyday discussions. You will also accompany a councillor in her work and behind the scenes of Dortmund politics. Of course, there will also be plenty of time to discuss everything together.
See through the games of power
After the look behind the scenes, August is all about the small and large power games on these very back stages. The workshop will be all about your micro-political skills. How do you influence policy-making? How do you recognize strategies of exclusion? And what is the difference between destructive and productive power games? These questions are important for political engagement, but can also be applied to any other organization.
From Dortmund to Berlin
In September, the political focus shifts from local politics in Dortmund to political events in the Bundestag in Berlin. For three days, you will gain insights into the political hustle and bustle, explore the capital and discuss political plans for the future with all participants.
The conclusion in October
Before the conclusion of the She For Democracy empowerment program in October, you will have another meeting with another female councillor and discuss the particular challenges women face and personal strategies for dealing with everyday politics. Your many insights and experiences will be reflected on at our closing event and a look will be taken at other forms of socio-political engagement.
