Women Professors Program

The Women Professors Program (PP) is a funding program of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) in cooperation with the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Here you can find some information about the program and TU Dortmund University's participation.

The female professorship program funds lifetime professorships for a maximum of five years that are filled by a first-time female professor. Appointments that are made in anticipation of a professorship becoming vacant in the future (anticipatory professorship) or to an existing vacancy (regular professorship) are eligible for funding. Appointments based on calls for applications since January 1, 2023 are eligible.

The program provides start-up funding of up to 165,000 euros per year. If the funding frees up funds, the university must invest them in equal opportunities measures in return. The aim of the program is not only to increase the proportion of female professors at universities, but also to raise awareness of the need to promote gender equality at all levels.

TU Dortmund University's participation in the Women Professors Program

TU Dortmund University successfully applied to participate in PP 2030 in 2023 with a "Gender equality concept for parity".

A prerequisite for submitting an application for funding is that the university has previously submitted an equality concept to the project management organization, which has been positively assessed. This so-called "equality concept for parity" was drawn up by TU Dortmund University and positively reviewed. The way is now clear for the funding of up to three female professors appointed after September 1, 2023.

The University of Dortmund had already drawn up a catalog of measures to promote family friendliness and young female academics for the first program phase in 2008, which was positively reviewed. For PP II, TU Dortmund University was able to prove in 2013 that the measures designed in 2008 had been successfully implemented. The 2018 positively reviewed update of the concepts provides a good overview of the status of gender equality at TU Dortmund University as well as the projects and measures implemented and the successes achieved. It represents an update of the concepts submitted in PP I and PP II.
