Introductory module
The basic module teaches fundamental knowledge about diversity and gender, intersectionality and social inequality. A critical examination of discrimination and power as well as reflection on one's own social positioning is central.
Module 1: Introduction to Diversity and Gender: Perspectives, Theories and Practices (5 CP)
I. Block course in presence: Friday 24.10.2025 and Saturday 25.10.2025, each 10 am - 6 pm (RUB; room TBA)
II. Four synchronous online sessions:

- Friday, 28.11.2025, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Gender, Prof. Motakef, TU Dortmund University
- Friday, 12.12.2025, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Post Colonial Studies, Prof. Nadim, UAR/RUB
- Friday, 16.01.2026, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Social Inequality & Class, Prof. Burzan, TU Dortmund University
III. Final block event in presence: Friday 30.01.2026 and Saturday 31.01.2026, each 10:00-16:00 (RUB, room TBA)
No prior knowledge of the subject is required. Students are expected to be willing to critically examine social power relations and to have an interest in interdisciplinary work. Students from all disciplines are invited to enrol in the programme.
Please note: The spoken language is German.
Composition of the final grade: The module grade is made up of the following equally weighted components: Group presentation of a self-selected small research project during the final event + written elaboration (2-3 pages) on a thematic focus from the online sessions (theoretically based and / or reflective-personalized). Examination date: The work is completed during the course.
