In the Department of Mechanical Engineering, the 12-14 year old participants took a closer look at the field of logistics with their student mentors. After a brief theoretical introduction by the workshop leaders, an all-female team, the girls watched an exciting show at the research center that focused on lasers, drones and mobile robots. These are research topics that the scientists at the Chair of Materials Handling and Warehousing are working on. In a short game, the students also learned more about the areas of logistics and were able to test their knowledge directly.
In the Statistics department, there was an introduction to bear biometrics. Biometrics refers to the measurement and statistical analysis of (biological) data. It is used in various areas to verify or identify the identity of individuals. The workshop at the Department of Statistics focused on the basic concepts of biometrics using the contents of wine gum bags. The students first counted the bears by hand, grouped them according to different characteristics and identified similarities. On the computer, the participants were able to implement the whole thing digitally using a program and create the corresponding models.
It was a very varied day for the MinTU participants. After the summer vacations, the third workshop day awaits the current group of the program.
