Polyamory, the | polyamorous (adj.)

Polyamory is made up of the ancient Greek word poly for "several" and the Latin word amor for "love" and describes a certain way of loving and forming relationships (Polyamorie, 2023).

The term encompasses various relationship models in which a person has or can have romantic and/or sexual relationships with several partners simultaneously, whereby all parties involved are informed about and agree to these constellations (Polyamorie, 2023). How polyamorous relationships are lived out is discussed and negotiated between the parties involved. The field of non-monogamous relationship models is large, with numerous different individual constellations and forms.

Furthermore, the term should not be confused with polygamy, which explicitly refers to the practice of one person, often male, marrying several people, usually women (Polygamie, 2023).
