Safety on campus
In 2003, the Central Equal Opportunities Officer began to identify inadequately lit, poorly visible and dangerous places on campus. Since then, she has initiated a site inspection every two years, which is carried out together with employees from the building department and health protection. Beforehand, all TU Dortmund University employees and students are asked to report places that they feel are unsafe or threatening by email. Many of the places that are subjectively perceived as dangerous are being made safer: for example, the lighting in the parking lots on Emil-Figge-Straße has been improved, bushes and trees have been cut back, lamps have been cleaned and light sources have been reinforced.
Hazardous areas have been significantly reduced
A lot has changed on the campus and in the surrounding area in recent years. In 2009, 87 hazardous locations were listed, whereas in 2023 there were only 19.
The number of locations for which TU Dortmund University is responsible has fallen significantly in recent years. There has been a noticeable improvement, particularly in the area of darkness. However, there are always new places listed that employees and students find dangerous. It is particularly noticeable that the campus is increasingly perceived as a shared space: many people move around here in different ways. The mutual consideration of pedestrians, cyclists and drivers as well as the issue of accessibility are of growing importance here.
Have you noticed a dark spot on the campus?
Often the reason for poor lighting is simply a defective bulb. In this case, you can report the defective lamp to the TU Dortmund University control room at any time (Tel.: 0231 755-3333). Using the number on the lamp post, the defective lamp can then be located and repaired as quickly as possible.
