About female.2.enterprises

The Equal Opportunities Office has been running the female.2.enterprises project since 2011. It is aimed exclusively at women at TU Dortmund University and offers them the opportunity to optimally prepare for a career start outside of academia.

Background

Goals

A head start for your career entry

With female.2.enterprises, the Equal Opportunities Office aims to improve the starting position of women for a career start in the private sector. Female students, academics and graduates of TU Dortmund University are supported in their career planning and preparation. female.2.enterprises deliberately aims to give its participants a head start over their male fellow students and colleagues when it comes to starting their careers, thereby reducing gender-specific inequalities in career paths outside of academia in the long term.

Female potential to combat the shortage of skilled workers

In Germany, there is a sector-specific shortage of academics and highly qualified specialists. Figures from the Institute for Employment Research show that the number of unfilled vacancies roughly doubled between 2010 and 2022. The demand rate for skilled workers with a university degree was 16% in 2021. In light of these developments, it is essential to utilize the potential of women - especially highly qualified women - more efficiently.

Keeping female graduates and scientists in the region

female.2.enterprises helps to show highly qualified female scientists attractive career development opportunities in Dortmund and the surrounding area and to support regional companies in their search for skilled workers. The aim is to keep women in the region and increase their proportion in management positions in the regional economy in the long term.

On stage and on tour: the two building blocks of f.2.e

The female.2.enterprises program consists of two components: While f.2.e on stage gives female students and academics the opportunity to prepare intensively for an entry into the business world by offering further training and information on career-relevant topics, f.2.e on tour offers in-depth insights into attractive companies as well as their operational structures and career opportunities.

female.2.enterprises is aimed at
  • Women from all subject groups at TU Dortmund University and
  • Companies from Dortmund and the surrounding area that would like to establish contacts with highly qualified female specialists at an early stage in order to make themselves attractive employers.

A success story

female.2.enterprises has enjoyed great popularity among female students and companies since the start of the project. Over 50 events took place between 2013 and 2022. The workshops offered by f.2.e on stage covered the entire application process: from skills analysis to negotiation training, from self-efficacy workshops to voice coaching, from traditional application training to preparation for assessment centers. With female.2.enterprises on tour, a wide variety of companies have already been visited: Local small and medium-sized enterprises as well as large international corporations based in the region have opened their doors to f.2.e groups.
