Diversity and Gender Certificate
As a student at TU Dortmund University, you will have the opportunity to acquire the UA Ruhr-wide Diversity and Gender Certificate from the winter semester 2025/26. In doing so, you will deal in depth with questions of diversity, social justice and power relations. The interdisciplinary and practical course promotes an attitude that is sensitive to discrimination - for your studies, your career and society.

In an increasingly complex world, a discrimination-sensitive attitude is more important than ever. The certificate offers you the opportunity to deal with key social issues. It encourages a critical perspective and enables you to recognize and question existing power structures. In this way, you will make a contribution to a fairer and more democratic society.
The certificate is being developed jointly by Ruhr-Universität Bochum, the University of Duisburg-Essen and TU Dortmund University and is aimed at Bachelor's and Master's students.
The certificate is still in the pilot phase. The basic module will start for the first time in the winter semester 2025/26, followed by further creditable courses at all three UA Ruhr locations in the summer semester 2026.
Structure
The certificate comprises a total of 15 CP. It consists of three modules that build on each other. Upon successful completion, you will receive the "Diversity and Gender" certificate.
Introductory module (5 CP)
The introductory module is offered exclusively for certificate students. It provides basic knowledge of diversity and gender, intersectionality and social inequality. You can register for module 1 here.
Practical module (5 CP)
This module enables you to put your theoretical knowledge into practice. You will complete an internship (120 hours) at a partner organization in order to experience and analyze the dynamics of diversity and inequality in concrete fields of action.
Advanced module (5 CP)
You choose two courses from an interdisciplinary course portfolio of the three UA Ruhr universities. The aim is to deepen your knowledge of diversity, gender and intersectionality as well as your ability to analyze social power relations. You can specialize thematically and gain further perspectives on diversity issues.
