UA Ruhr workshop "Gender equality issues at universities - a workshop for equal opportunities officers"

Gender equality issues can be relevant at universities in a variety of constellations. They play a role in everyday university life not only in the introduction of specific equal opportunities measures, but also in the selection of applicants and in appointment procedures. A solid basic knowledge is required to deal with equal opportunities issues correctly.
The seminar provided a comprehensive overview of the most important legal framework conditions that are of central importance for the implementation of equal opportunities tasks at the university. In addition to the constitutional foundations of gender equality, issues relating to higher education law were discussed in particular. The focus was on equality issues in appointment procedures. To this end, the participants looked at the state equal opportunities act and the university's internal statutes, regulations and guidelines. The workshop also offered participants the opportunity to exchange experiences, discuss and raise individual questions.
The speaker was lawyer Dr. Juliane Lorenz, legal advisor for university and civil service law, appointment advice at the German University Association.
The workshop is part of a continuing education format that is jointly designed and alternately organized by the central equal opportunities officers of the UA Ruhr universities (Ruhr University Bochum, University of Duisburg-Essen, TU Dortmund University).
