The current discourse on gender-equitable language is complex and controversial. The focus is on questions of (not only) linguistic equality and inclusion, as well as the preservation of traditional language structures and recent bans on so-called "gender language" in several federal states.

For these reasons, the Conference of Institutions for Women's and Gender Studies in German-speaking Countries (KEG) at the FU Berlin on 23/24 May, the working group "Prohibitions of gender-inclusive language in Germany, Austria and Switzerland: exchange of experiences and strategies for a joint approach" was formed.
After an intensive discussion with lively participation, the speakers decided to formulate a statement that explicitly positions itself in favor of the use of gender-inclusive language. The use of "gender language" helps to counteract previous discrimination, marginalization and invisibilization and thus enable gender equality - also linguistically. Just as the realities of life and scientific findings continue to develop and multiply, this must also be reflected in our language.

In their statement, the speakers of the Conference of Institutions for Women's and Gender Studies in German-speaking Countries (KEG) advocate the use of gender-inclusive language.
