Location & approach

By public transportation (S-Bahn, H-Bahn, bus)

You can reach the North Campus of TU Dortmund University by taking the S1, the H-Bahn or the various city buses (445, 447, 462, 465, NE8).

Coming from the S-Bahn stop “Dortmund Universität” or the H-Bahn stop “DO-Universität S”, walk up the stairs, past the glass university library and cross the bridge that leads to the orange canteen building.
The bus stops “Dortmund Universität” are located under the bridge, you can reach them via various stairs.
The H-Bahn stop “Campus Nord” is located directly on the bridge.

From the Mensa bridge, walk in the direction of the Mensa building and continue past the Mathetower with the green TU logo on the roof to Martin-Schmeißer-Platz. Cross the square and walk up the stairs. When you turn right at the advertising pillar, you will already see the large house number Emil-Figge-Straße 66. Use the entrance marked G1, the rooms of the Equal Opportunities Office are located on the first floor on the right.

With car

From the direction of Essen (Bochum, Dortmund West interchange):

From the A40, take the Dortmund Dorstfeld exit (43). Turn left onto Hauert and then left again onto Emil-Figge-Straße.

You can use the parking lots at entrances 9, 10 or 12 and walk from the back to building G1.

Alternatively, turn right at the traffic lights onto Vogelpothsweg and use the parking lot at entrance 21. You can then reach our offices on foot via the same route as described under “By public transport”.

From the direction of Dortmund (Unna, Kamener Kreuz):

From the A40, take the Dortmund-Barop exit (44) and then turn directly left. Drive to the traffic circle and take the first exit onto Emil-Figge-Straße.

You can use the parking lot at entrance 21. Turn left at the traffic lights onto Vogelpothsweg. You can then reach our offices on foot via the same route as described under “By public transport”.

Alternatively, you can use the parking lots at entrances 9, 10 or 12 and walk to building G1 from the back. Continue straight ahead at the traffic lights on Emil-Figge-Straße; the parking spaces are on the left-hand side.

The facilities of Dortmund University of Technology are spread across the larger North Campus and the smaller South Campus. In addition, some areas of the university are located in the adjacent Technology Park. You can find more detailed information on the site plans.

NextGen Research Award: funding for excellent young scientists

TU Dortmund University is awarding the NextGen Research Prize for the first time in 2025 to support promising young researchers on their path to a professorship. The award includes a funded teaching and research assignment for the duration of one year and offers postdoctoral researchers the opportunity to gain initial experience in a department's group of professors. The research award supports a person who belongs to the gender that is underrepresented in the applying department.

The NextGen Research Award offers an excellent opportunity for external young researchers to advance their academic career and gain valuable experience in university teaching and research at TU Dortmund University.

Application requirements:

The applicant must not be a member of TU Dortmund University.
An excellent doctorate as well as initial beginnings of an own scientific profile are required.
Applications must be submitted in cooperation with a department at TU Dortmund University.

Application process:

The host department and the applicant jointly prepare an application that includes the following documents:

Academic CV including list of publications, third-party funding and awards if applicable.
Letter of motivation with a coordinated overview of the planned teaching and research activities.
Brief description of the department on how the junior researcher will be integratet into the department.

Selection criteria:

Academic performance, taking into account academic age and discipline.
Fit of the planned teaching and research activities with the profile of TU Dortmund University.
Attractiveness of the department's concept for involving the junior researcher.

Timetable:

Application deadline: May 15, 2025
Feedback: May 2025
Period of stay: October 1, 2025 to September 30, 2026
