MinTU group spends an exciting day at the Dortmunder U

As part of the MinTU mentoring program "Mädchen in die TU Dortmund", mentors and mentees meet regularly to share interesting experiences and discover new things together. This time, a MinTU group went to the Dortmunder U, a well-known cultural center in the middle of the city, which gave the group a day full of new impressions and lots of fun. The mentor reports on the day:

"Our excursion started with the exhibition ‘Physics and Art between Time and Space’, which was designed by students from TU Dortmund University. This mixture of science and art was exciting, and even though some of the artworks were quite challenging, we had a lot of fun discussing the works together and sharing our impressions. But the real highlight did not take very long to come: we spontaneously discovered an interactive exhibition called ‘Pixelfieber’. There we were able to try out various (computer) games and installations, which we all really enjoyed. We were particularly excited about the station where we were projected onto a screen made of pixels - the animations even reacted to our movements! After an extensive discovery tour, we moved onto the next stop.

A special highlight was the viewing platform on the Dortmunder U. From up here, we had an impressive view over the whole city. For many of us, it was the first time to see Dortmund from above.

We then made a short trip to my apartment, as some of the mentees were curious to see what life in a shared apartment is like. This gave them the opportunity to get a first-hand impression and ask all their questions.

To round off the day, we enjoyed a pizza together and used the time for chatting in a relaxed atmosphere. It was a nice and cosy end to an eventful day where we got to know each other better, talked a lot about studying, life in Dortmund and our interests and had a lot of fun."

 

 

The mentoring program MinTU - Mädchen in die TU Dortmund (Girls into TU Dortmund University) offers around 50 schoolgirls between the ages of 12 and 14 the opportunity to get to know STEM faculties at TU Dortmund University as part of a mentoring program. The girls are supervised for a year by a mentor who is herself a student on a STEM course at TU Dortmund University and provides an insight into her subject and everyday life as a student in a personal exchange.
