MinTU - Girls into TU Dortmund University has started again

After welcoming the participants in plenary, the students (mentees) split up into small groups, each with a STEM student (mentor). To ensure that the year full of workshops and exciting activities would be a success, the mentors were particularly creative in organizing the get-together. For example, two groups built towers out of marshmallows and spaghetti, where the mentees had to ensure stable cohesion. The group led by bioengineering student Lena introduced themselves to each other using biographical drawings and mechanical engineering student Blerta played "I'm packing my suitcase" with her mentees, as "memorization is the be-all and end-all of studying".
The mentoring program MinTU - Mädchen in die TU Dortmund (Girls into TU Dortmund University) offers around 50 schoolgirls between the ages of 12 and 14 the opportunity to get to know STEM faculties at TU Dortmund University as part of a mentoring program. The girls are supervised for a year by a mentor who is herself a student on a STEM course at TU Dortmund University and provides an insight into her subject and everyday life as a student in a personal exchange.
MINT workshops finally back on campus
After getting to know each other for the first time, mentees and mentors gathered ideas together for the upcoming mentoring meetings. Visits to the climbing garden or the planetarium were high on the students' wish list. However, they also discussed the students' expectations of the mentoring program: One group had lots of questions about studying and wished to get to know TU Dortmund University better. Another group was particularly interested in "bragging knowledge" so that they could shine in conversations with interesting facts. During the planning of the meetings, it was clear that all four groups were already looking forward to the upcoming year of workshops and mentoring meetings.
