MinTU girls combine high-tech and fake news in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and the Department of Statistics. During the second workshop day, the mentees not only learned about drones, but also got to grips with diagrams.

In the workshop at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, girls aged 12 to 14 immersed themselves in the fascinating world of logistics together with their student mentors. After a brief introduction by the workshop team, the girls were able to experience an impressive live show. The focus was on innovative technologies such as lasers, drones and mobile robots - precisely the topics that the scientists at the Chair of Materials Handling and Warehousing are researching. Controlling the drones independently was a very special experience for the girls. In an interactive game, they also learned about the different areas of logistics in a playful way and were able to try out their newly acquired knowledge directly with the help of Lego bricks.

The Statistics department also had exciting discoveries in store. The workshop invited participants to take a look behind the scenes of diagrams and tables and explore the many possibilities of statistics. In the first part, the girls learned how easily statistics - for example in headlines or social media - can be misinterpreted or even manipulated. Together, they learned to critically question: what is really behind the figures?
The second part was practical and sweet. The girls slipped into the role of chocolate makers and investigated whether two types of chocolate actually taste different. "If I get to taste chocolate every day, I really want to study statistics," said one girl happily.

The workshop showed in an entertaining way: We encounter statistics everywhere in everyday life and it helps us to understand the world better!
