Girls*Day and Boys*Day at TU Dortmund University

TU Dortmund University once again took part in Girls*Day/Boys*Day this year. On April 25, almost 250 students were able to choose between many different workshops and try things out for themselves. The "Future Day" gives girls and boys the opportunity to get to know professions in which their own gender is still underrepresented.

On Boys*Day, for example, the Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences, the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Faculty of Human Sciences and Theology offered workshops in which boys could take a look at social or artistic professions. A day in technical and scientific fields awaited girls, as Girls*Day at TU Dortmund University gave them the opportunity to get to know the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, the Faculty of Statistics and the Faculty of Physics, for example.

But before they went to the workshops, the girls were welcomed by Girls*Day and Boys*Day coordinator Jill Timmreck. In conversation with Jill Timmreck, trainees from TU Dortmund University then introduced themselves and talked about their everyday life in glass apparatus construction or in the mechanical engineering workshops.

In the "Why God?" workshop in theology, some boys discussed God and whether he exists. For others, the cultural studies workshop focused on the world of soccer from a cultural perspective. Here they didn't play or watch soccer together, but talked about the special language used in soccer. The boys learned which phrases and words are typically used and what effects they have.
