New report on equal opportunities in science and research published
This again shows an increase in the proportion of women among first-time enrolments (by 5.8 percentage points to 52.4%) and among graduates (by 2.2 percentage points to 53.2%): both proportions of women now exceed the 50% mark. The proportion of female doctorates also continues to rise and is close to parity at 45.9%. However, their share of habilitations is only 33.9%.
Few women in top positions
At 27.2%, the proportion of female professors at German universities is also still far from parity. Differences can be seen here in the salary groups: the higher the group, the lower the proportion of women. While women hold 48.0 % of W 1 professorships and thus almost reach parity, their share is only 28.0 % for C 3/W 2 professorships and only 23.0 % for C 4/W 3 professorships.(The quotas at TU Dortmund University in 2021 are just below the national figures).
The developments at non-university research institutions (data from 2022) are comparable: There, the proportion of women in management positions was 23.2 %, around 10 % more than ten years previously.
