20 years of hazard inspections!
After the online semesters of the pandemic years, the campus is once again a central place where students, employees and visitors spend a lot of time. People should feel safe and comfortable here. To ensure this, the Central Equal Opportunities Officer has been regularly calling on people to report places that make them feel uncomfortable or pose a risk for 20 years now. This year, the number of reports of dangerous places - such as sloping and loose floor slabs or defects in buildings - continued to fall. On the other hand, there was an increase in reports of missing or inadequate lighting.
Lack of lighting was reported most frequently
During the two-hour inspection at the end of January, it became clear that TU Dortmund University's efforts to save energy have a dark side: The reduction in lighting was the trigger for numerous emails. Even before the actual hazard inspection, the building and facility management team checked whether important points such as forks and staircases were sufficiently illuminated in the dark and in some cases arranged for additional lamps to be switched on. During the joint hazard inspection, further exposed locations were identified where deactivated lighting in particular is now to be reactivated. For example, additional lanterns will be put into operation around the Erich Brost Institute, at the university library and behind the physics building.
The idea of noting the lighting situation of the parking spaces on the campus map has also been developed so that people can select bright parking areas when needed.
