On May 12, 2022, a new round of the "MinTU - Girls at TU Dortmund University" project kicked off with a workshop. Under the motto "Journey into space", 25 schoolgirls from Witten, Castrop-Rauxel, Sprockhövel, Bochum and Dortmund were able to get to know the Department of Physics.

Workshop leader Dr. Sylvia Rückheim, Head of the DLR_School-Lab, as well as Anja Fißmer and Dr. Bärbel Siegmann from the Physics department welcomed the students and immediately took them on a journey into space. They answered questions such as "Who goes into space?", "Why does a rocket reach space and not an airplane?" and "What is different in space than on Earth?". The pupils were already very well informed and were interested in asking further questions.

The content part of the workshop was followed by the practical part with lots of experiments: the pupils made small effervescent rockets, carried out a water bucket experiment and made water ice using nitrogen. Following the experiments, Marie, a physics student, gave an insight into what it's like to study physics at TU Dortmund University and showed what else TU Dortmund has to offer.

Jill Timmreck from the Equal Opportunities Office moderated a round in which the focus was on the MinTU participants getting to know each other. The students shared their expectations and wishes for the upcoming time together - as well as their telephone numbers. Initial networking took place.

It was a successful start to presence after almost two years of MinTU absence from campus.
