TU Dortmund University once again took part in both Girls* and Boys* Future Day on March 28. In workshops, participants were able to gain an insight into the degree programs and apprenticeships offered at TU Dortmund University. The results of a survey show how satisfied they were with this TU Dortmund University offer.

At the end of each event, the girls and boys completed a comprehensive feedback form. They answered standardized and open questions. This not only gives the organizers an insight into the participant structure, but also feedback on the workshops and the supporting program. The results of the survey are used for quality assurance and to improve the offer.

Science and technology workshops for schoolgirls

Girls had the choice between 15 workshops in the STEM departments. The feedback could not have been better. No workshop was rated worse than 2.0. In particular, technologies and machines that do not have a fixed place in everyday school life were very well received by the schoolgirls: From 3D printers to lasers, the schoolgirls were able to try out small as well as larger devices.

The practical work and experiments impressed the girls: Girls*Day is "useful for getting to know professions that you might not otherwise have been aware of," wrote one participant. Another schoolgirl shares: "I think it's a prejudice that only men can work well with machines. Women and men don't have different skills, but the career decision depends on the individual character."

Boys*Day: Students attended workshops in social and cultural science departments or central facilities at TU Dortmund University

Boys were able to put together their Boys*Day program at TU Dortmund University from eight workshops. The events were very well received by the students: "I think the idea of the taster day is very good and would recommend Boys*Day. I enjoyed trying out something new and getting to know the library with practical tasks." Boys*Day is not just about imparting knowledge: "I think Boys*Day is good because you make new friends and have lots of experiences." The variety of information, trying things out and a pleasant atmosphere make the day a success. One pupil summed it up: "I think Boys*Day is great because you can do jobs that you've always wanted to do. I'll be taking part again in 2020!"

The boys also gave the workshops good or very good marks across the board.

Girls*Day and Boys*Day take place annually and are funded by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. At TU Dortmund University, the campaign days are coordinated by the Equal Opportunities Office.
